Can An Air Fryer Replace A Microwave

I am planning to buy an air fryer. But before buying it I thought, do I really need it? Because I am already having a microwave but the hype and benefits of an air fryer made me feel to buy it. But again, I thought, do I need to replace my microwave then?

For all such questions that were trigging me, I did research. Here are the answers to my questions. Sharing it with you people as well so that you may also find your answers in one place.

Can an air fryer replace a microwave?

The answer is No. But why? Because most of the features of a microwave and an air fryer are similar and seems like they function in the same way.

This curiosity made me research on this, that how an air fryer is different from a microwave. Although they seem like same but still, we are not able to replace an air fryer with a microwave.

So, let’s start with the basics that I came across from the research.

How microwave works?

A microwave uses electromagnetic energy and converts it into thermal energy to work. The main part of the microwave is a vacuum tube called a magnetron that generates the energy, which further penetrates into the food to cook or heat. The other quality of a microwave is that it evenly cooks all the food at the same time.

How does an air fryer work?

On the contrary, an air fryer uses air to generate heat. The main part of an air fryer is a fan and a coil. The coil generates heat and the fan circulates hot air around the food. It has no concern with the radiation, it’s totally dependent on the air.

What is the difference between an air fryer and a microwave?

Principle of Working:

The key difference between both the appliance is the principle of working. The microwave uses radiation to cook food whereas, the air fryer uses hot air to cook the food.

Cooking Technique:

The air fryer cooks food layer by layer like the top layer first then the inner layers. As the temperature increases, it reaches inside the food with time. Whereas, microwave cooks food’s all parts at the same time. The rays are penetrated into the food and heat each part of the food at the same time.

Cooking Time:

The feature of different cooking techniques automatically saves a lot of time. This is the reason microwaves are considered as the quick mean of cooking.

Heating Food:

The other difference for which microwave is famous worldwide and is irreplaceable is the heating of food within few seconds. Microwave gives the option to heat your food and cook your food within few minutes. It offers quick cooking and heating food option which the air fryer lacks.

Space:

Moreover, a microwave allows a bigger space and larger quantity of food to deal with as compared to an air fryer.

Above all, both the appliances are good and valuable at their place. An air fryer reduces calorie intake and makes food far more healthy than microwave-cooked food. On the other hand, the microwave saves a lot of time and makes cooking and heating so easy.

Last Verdict:

An air fryer is a good and healthier appliance that has made its place in the kitchen very rapidly. You can have them to avoid oil and reduce calorie numbers. But it cannot be able to replace a microwave because the microwave is much faster and has more diversity when it comes to its features and cooking ideas. Whereas, the air fryer has some limitations as compared to the microwave. Like you cannot heat liquid in an air fryer, you cannot heat food within few seconds, and you cannot use it for instant cooking.
