Today we are going to discuss the very common problem that most of us face while using blenders at home or in a restaurant. The problem is the bad smell that comes from the blender’s jar. You might take care of your blender but still, there are some vegetables, fruits, and food items that left a bad smell in the blender’s jar.
Why My Blender Smells Bad? Reasons?
Food items like onion, garlic, red chilies have a strong odor. These strong odors are left in our blender’s jar and make the blender smell bad. Even if we make something like smoothies or shakes it will change its taste as well.
Blenders are used for multi-purposes. We used it for smoothies, shakes, soups, dips, salsas. We also use blenders to make a paste or chop different vegges like onion, ginger, garlic, red chilies, etc.
The second reason could be if we left the jar dirty for long. Although it is not onion or garlic this time, but leaving the blender’s jar dirty for long can also produce odor and makes your blender smells bad.
The last but not the least reason could be if we put the wet blender in the box or the kitchen cabinets without drying it. This way of keeping the blender also leaves the blender smells bad.
How To Remove Bad Smell From Blender Jug?
Use Banana Peel
This sounds weird. But yes it is going to work like crazy.
I was about to make my banana shake but as I open the lid of my blender’s jar it smelled really bad. I was so annoyed that how to deal with it. Then I saw my banana peels and got the idea to first blend the leftover banana peels so that all the bad smell and bad taste can come to that peel.
And guess what? It worked for me.
I added my leftover banana peels with some water in the blender so it may blend properly. I had blended it for around 40 to 50 seconds. Discarded the blended paste and washed it with the normal detergent. The smell was not there and my jar smelled so fresh.
Good to know: Never blend for several minutes at once since it causes the blender overheating. Always blend for 20-30 seconds then off the switch and then blend again and so on.
You can use any fruit or vegetable peel that itself does not have any strong smell.
There are multiple ways to remove the bad smell from your blender.
Wash It With A Good Detergent and Salt
Sometimes the odor is weak enough to be easily removed with good smelling detergent or dishwashing liquids.
Take 1 tablespoon of liquid dish wash, add 2 cups of water and blend for 15 seconds. Drain the water from the jug and rinse it well. The bad smell will be gone. If your liquid dish wash has a very strong fragrance, do not add more than 1 tablespoon, and do not blend for too long since it will leave a strong fragrance that will be infused in your drink/smoothie when you blend after the wash.
If your detergent has too strong fragrance then add 1 tablespoon of salt into it and then blend. This will help in minimizing the odor to some extent.
Use Half Cup Vinegar
If the odor is strong enough that it is not removed from the detergent, then use this technique.
Take half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of water. Blend them together in the blender for 30 to 60 seconds depending upon the smell. This will immediately remove the blender’s bad smell.
Use Flour and Lemon
You can also use flour and lemon if just using vinegar does not help. Take half a cup flour and add half cup of vinegar into it and blend for 40-69 seconds. The smell will go away.
Blend Half Lemon
You can also give your blender a fresh lemon smell by blending half lemon with a glass of water. Blend it for a few seconds to a minute. Remove the blended liquid and rinse it with water. Your jar will smell fresh like a lemon.
Use Bread Slice and Milk
We all have bread slices and milk available in our homes, right? So you can use these too. What you have to do is take a slice of bread and add it to the blender jar by making small pieces of it. Add 4-5 tablespoons of milk into it so that the mixture remains liquidy instead of a paste, giving you hard time washing it.
Now cover the lid and blend for 40-50 seconds and wash it properly. The smell will be gone.
Use Salt and Water
If you have read all the above methods and you are still worried if the above ingredients are not available at your home, don’t be upset because we got you covered. There’s one more simple way of removing the bad smell from your blender.
Add a glass of water to your blender and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Give it a blend for 40-50 seconds so that the water becomes milky. Now drain the liquid and wash it with water proper. The bad smell will no more be there.
