Make These With Leftover Juice Pulp- 8 Amazing Ideas

Juices are a very important part of a healthy diet. They are a huge source of vitamins and nutrients. Making juices at home is also very easy, quick and cheap. But the only frustrating or you can say the situation where we feel like we are wasting the leftover juice pulp while cleaning the juicer which is actually the fibre and should not be wasted, I feel. Because fibre is also very important for our healthy diet and body’s maintenance. So why not use that fibre as well?

Yes, you read the right. And that’s the reason you came here to get the idea that how can we use it in creative ways.

Leftover juice pulps are nothing then the fibrous content of the fruits and vegetables. So, it is not the waste material instead it can be used in numerous ways to make it edible.

1. Ice Lollies

If you or your kids love ice lollies then this would be the easiest and simplest way to utilize your leftover juice pulp. Here are the steps to make ice lollies out of it:

  • Suppose if you made orange/ apple/pomegranate etc juice. Add its juice to the pulp.
  • Keep the consistency liquidy enough that it can form an ice lolly.
  • Pour the content into the ice lolly container.
  • Freeze it for 5 or more hours till it freezes properly.

2. Use It As A Stuffed Filling

The leftover juice pulp especially of vegetables like carrot, spinach, broccoli etc. can be used as a filling for the stuffed peppers, stuffed chicken, stuffed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed bread etc. A quick recipe for making it a stuffed filling is given below:

Ingredients:

  • 1 bowl leftover juice pulp of veggies
  • 1 bowl of shredded boiled chicken or 1 cup cooked beef minced
  • 2 tsp oil for sauté
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 medium chopped onion
  • ¼ cup cooked tomato paste or ketchup
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic

Method:

  • Take a pan. Add oil and turn the burner on medium flame.
  • Add chopped garlic and saute it for 1 minute.
  • Now add onion and again saute it for 2 to 3 minutes. Let it be soft and change its colour to translucent.
  • Now add leftover juice pulp of vegetables (i.e. broccoli, spinach, carrot, celery etc).
  • Give it a good mix and let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Till the veggies soften.
  • Now add boiled shredded chicken, salt and pepper.
  • At last, add the tomato paste or ketchup. Mix all the ingredients well.
  • Your filling is ready to be stuffed.

3. Eat it as a Salad

Even you can add salt and pepper or any of the herbs of your choice. Mix it well and use it as a salad. Can be eaten as a salad or you can mix it with freshly made salad so it may look presentable and attractive.

It can also be eaten with different salad dressings like creamy dressings which usually contain cream, mayonnaise, sour cream, yogurt etc. The vinaigrette dressing that usually oil and vinegar-based along with the herbs of your choice. Or the readymade salad dressings can be used to give your salad flavour.

4. Make Sandwiches or French Bread Sandwich

These leftover juice pulp can be used in the french bread sandwich or other sandwiches  We made it by mixing different ingredients like parsley, boiled eggs, chopped peppers, mayonnaise, chilli garlic sauce and some salt and pepper. It turned out to be the freshest and yummy sandwiches we had ever had.

You can also use this mixture to fill the french bread. Sprinkle some shredded cheese on top and bake it for more flavour.

5. Make Desserts Out of It

Making dessert from the carrot leftover juice pulp is one of the old rituals we had seen in our kitchen for years. Either it is used to make rice and carrot pudding or the Indian dessert called “Halva”.

Recipe for Carrot/Beetroot Halva:

Ingredients:

  • ½ kg Leftover juice pulp of carrot or beetroot
  • 250g of butter
  • 1 cup sugar or as per taste
  • ½ tsp Cardamom powder
  • ½ Unsalted ricotta cheese
  • Almonds for garnish

Method:

  • Take butter in a hot pot.
  • Add Cardamom powder
  • Add leftover juice pulp of carrot or beetroot in the pot.
  • Let it cook for 30 minutes. It will release its water.
  • Dry the water and add sugar.
  • Cook it till all the moisture is removed and oil can be seen on top.
  • Add unsalted ricotta cheese and almonds on top. Turn the burner off.
  • It is ready to be served.

6. Make Bread or Muffins

If you have the baking sense then you can easily incorporate the leftover juice pulp and make bread or muffins out of it. For bread, you can make the batter as usual and adjust the pulp according to your preference. Either minimize the flour quantity or the liquid quantity depending upon the leftover pulp consistency. There are different recipes are also available which you can see to follow the exact ratio of the ingredients.

7. Make Snack Bars

The other yummiest snack can be made from the leftover juice pulp. And it turned out to be the most healthy and crunchy bars to be eaten as a snack. Sharing my own recipe here with you

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup leftover juice pulp
  • 2 cups oats
  • 1 cup mix nuts
  • ½ cup Any sweetener of your choice ( honey, sugar, maple syrup etc.)
  • 4 tsp peanut butter
  • 2 tsp any of your favourite seeds ( sunflower seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds etc.)

Method:

  • Preheat your oven at 350F.
  • Add all the dry ingredients in a food processor and give it a good mix. Don’t powder it, just a chopped and mixed form is required.
  • Take out the dry mixture in a bowl.
  • Add leftover juice pulp, peanut butter and honey (we had used honey as a sweetener).
  • Give it a good mix and shape them in bars on a baking tray.
  • Bake them for 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Once baked let it cool, then enjoy the yummiest and healthiest snack bars.

8. Make Vegetable Pasta

Pasta is love. Every house has 1 or 2 even all members who love eating pasta. The leftover pulp of vegetables can be added in the making of pasta. Don’t add too much but in a limited amount of these leftovers can be added during the frying time of chicken or along with the other veggies. The juicy leftover pulps will also add a juicy flavour to your pasta. Try it you would not regret it. The overall look might not be loved but the taste and fibre intake would definitely make it worth it to try. 

9. Give Your Pet Treat With The Leftover Juice Pulp

If you have pet animals or birds like hen, cat, rabbit, parrot, goat, cow etc. The leftover juice pulp would be like a treat for them. Herbivores animals and birds love eating veggies and the leftovers like these are a special treat for them. Our hens love eating them and not that they just eat it with pleasure in fact they fight with each other for it.

10. Make Yummy Vegetable Soup

There is another idea to make yummy vegetable soup with leftover juice pulp. Add water and spices to the leftover pulp and cook it to make a delicious and healthy soup. You can also add peas, chicken or eggs to make it more interesting and flavorful.

11. Make Vegetable Wrap or Roll

Wraps are liked and eaten by youngsters a lot. If you want to make a happy meal for your kids yet want it to be healthy then this would be the best idea  You can use it to make a tasty wrap filling. Either you can add meat pieces or cheese along with the cooked leftover juice pulp veggies. Add sauce and make a wrap.

 

Final Thoughts:

You just have to be sensible with the selection of leftover juice pulp while using them in your recipes. A fruit pulp obviously cannot be used in sandwiches and similarly the pulp of the veggies cannot be used for making desserts. But with the right and accurate techniques you can use the fibre of leftover juice pulp in so many creative ways.
