Can You Put Parchment Paper In An Air Fryer? Let’s Find Out

Can You Put Parchment Paper In An Air Fryer

Contents

The air fryer is, without a doubt, one of the coolest kitchen appliances you can own. Without one, the kitchen is incomplete!

You may have wondered, “Can You Put Parchment Paper In An Air Fryer?” So the answer is, Yes! I prefer using it because it helps in cleaning the air fryer basket.

But you’re probably wondering what parchment paper is, when you should use it and why you should? So, keep reading, and I’ll be answering all of your questions so you can decide if it’s worth it.

What is parchment paper and why is it used in an air fryer?

Parchment paper is a type of paper that is relatively oven safe and is most commonly used in baking. In addition to being treated to prevent sticking, the paper can also withstand certain oven temperatures.

When cooking sticky or greasy foods in an air fryer, parchment paper can be an effective accessory. Food items that would otherwise adhere to the air fryer basket, such as chicken wings in a sticky sauce, will not adhere to the parchment paper. This not only makes things easier and less messy but also reduces the amount of cleanup required after cooking.

Is parchment paper required in the air fryer?

Parchment paper is an optional air fryer accessory that I find extremely useful in certain situations. In most recipes, it’s used primarily to aid in cleanup and is optional except in a few cases.

To keep the foods from sticking into the holes in the basket, I recommend using parchment paper every time you make any sticky thing.

Or any other foods that contain the raw dough and can get stuck in the holes can be prevented from sticking by using parchment paper.

Why parchment paper should be used in the air fryer

It is optional to use parchment paper in an air fryer.

Nevertheless, you may wish to use it for the following reasons:

  • When using parchment paper in the air fryer basket, it is easier to clean the basket after cooking.
  • Due to the holes, it may not catch all of the grease from food that falls, but it will catch the majority.
  • To increase the longevity of your air fryer basket.
  • Using parchment paper reduces the amount of scrubbing required when cleaning the air fryer, as it absorbs the majority of any drippings that may adhere to the basket during cooking.
  • With parchment paper, only light scrubbing is required.
  • Even though the majority of air fryer baskets are non-stick, some food may stick due to wear and tear or for no apparent reason.
  • Using parchment prevents adhesion
  • Prevents goods from tearing when they must be flipped.

How to use air fryer parchment paper?

The parchment paper is very easy to use but has some basic steps to be followed:

  • Cut the Parchment paper

Use the proper baking paper—wax paper will not work and will damage your fryer.

Cut once, measure twice.

To avoid a fire hazard, the paper should not be piled up in your fryer and measure the size before preheating the air fryer.

Make your own by cutting a parchment paper slightly smaller than the basket size. This allows the most air to flow through, crisping your dish perfectly.

  • Preheat the air fryer

Then, preheat your air fryer. When you add the parchment paper to the air fryer while preheating, the liner will fly up, hit the fan, and burn.

  • Put parchment Paper

When the food is ready to be placed, then add the parchment paper.

Is Parchment paper for air fryers and regular parchment paper the same?

No. they are not the same. The perforated holes distinguish air fryer parchment paper from regular baking parchment paper.

Air fryer parchment paper comes with precut holes in premeasured sheets for better air circulation. If you use air fryer parchment paper, your food will be crispier and juicy.

Can I make my own perforated parchment paper?

Yes! Make your own by following these simple steps.

  • The normal parchment paper should be cut slightly smaller than the basket size.
  • To cut holes, use a small hole puncher.
  • Place the parchment paper in the basket AFTER the air fryer has been preheated.

While it is simple to make your own, it is well worth your time to buy pre-made air fryer paper online. Amazon sells great square or circular air fryer parchment paper in packs of 100 for a very low price.

Is parchment paper safe to use in an air fryer?

Absolutely! If it can go in the oven, it can go in the fryer. Most parchment papers can withstand temperatures above 400 degrees.

Simply follow these two guidelines when using parchment paper in the air fryer.

Never use parchment paper to preheat your air fryer. Food must always be placed on top, or the parchment paper will burn.

Use parchment paper only when you have something heavy enough to weigh it down.

When cooking just one frozen mozzarella stick in the air fryer, for example, parchment paper will not work. Outsides will continue to fly upward and strike the fan.

Is it okay to use wax paper in an air fryer?

No, in the air fryer wax paper will completely melt.

What are some air fryer parchment paper sheet alternatives?

If you are out of parchment paper then no need to worry there are some alternatives to parchment as well. Like:

Aluminum foil

Aluminum foil can also be used in the air fryer with certain foods. More information on when and when not to use foil in the air fryer can be found here.

You can use these awesome reusable silicone perforated air fryer liners and baskets if you want something more sustainable and dishwasher safe.

Silicon tray

Silicon trays are also a good option. I use a silicone tray when my parchment paper gets finished. It is the best alternative and is ideal for nonstick items.

The thing you should know before using a parchment paper in an air fryer

Tip number 1: Use parchment paper for an air fryer

Do not buy the regular parchment paper. The air fryer has its own special parchment paper with holes for easy cooking. Do not mistakenly use a different type of paper, such as wax paper. Ensure that you are using edible parchment paper.

Tip number 2: Verify the maximum oven temperature

Compare the maximum temperature that parchment paper can withstand with the temperature at which you cook food in your air fryer before using it. Usually, this paper can be safely heated to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Normally the air fryer we have seen and used reaches a maximum temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit, we are reasonably confident that nothing will ignite.

Tip number 3: Cut paper properly before preheating the air fryer

Measure twice, cut once is a common adage applicable to a variety of situations. Simply put, your parchment paper may exceed the dimensions of your air fryer’s basket. Never stuff oversized paper into your fryer; measure your paper beforehand. I prefer to trim the paper slightly smaller than the basket itself. This allows for the greatest amount of airflow to circulate. Obviously, wrapping your fryer in the paper is a fire hazard!

Another alternative is to purchase pre-cut parchment paper.

Tip number 4: Avoid using paper during pre-heat

Regarding this, add the paper to the air fryer only when it can be weighted down by a suitably dense food item. If you use parchment paper during the preheating process, or if it is not adequately weighted down, it may fly up into the heating element and catch fire. This brings us to the most crucial point.

From where can I buy parchment paper?

The majority of grocery stores carry this common cooking ingredient. However, we have been perplexed on occasion to find it in nearby stores. If that’s the case, or if you just want simple convenience, you can order it from Amazon for roughly $15 dollars (we get a small referral fee too if you purchase from that link).

Note:

Always be careful while using electric fire-catching machines. Always! Consult the manufacturer’s manual for your air fryer and be aware of what you’re doing. All machines are unique, and so is paper. Please be careful! Air fryers contain revolving fans and extremely hot heating elements; therefore, paper can certainly catch fire. Never leave your air fryer unattended.
